Barbara Boxer is an American politician who retired from the United States senator post from California. She served her Senator post from 1983 to 1993. She also proclaimed that she would not run for re-election in January 2015, the same time when she announced her retirement from politics. Barbara Levy was born on 11 November 1940 in Brooklyn, New York. Her parents were Jewish immigrants, and she went to George W. Wingate High school and Brooklyn College. She got married to Stewert Boxer in 1962. She has two children, Douglas and Nicole. While in college, she was an associate of Delta Phi Epsilon and was a cheerleader for the Brooklyn College basketball team. She was also working as a Stockbroker when her husband was attending law school. The couple then moved to Greenbrae, California. She started running for politics in 1972 when she competed against Peter Arrigoni but lost at a close quarter. During the late 1970s, she worked as a journalist for Pacific Sun and was an aide to John Burton. She was designated as a Marin County supervisor in 1976, and she worked with them for six years. She was the shortest but the first female president of the board. Her daughter also married Tony Rodham, who is the younger brother of Hillary Clinton. The ceremony happened at the White House, and over 250 guests were attending it. She is also a well-known writer for novels’ A time to run’ and blind trust.
